May 10, 2012 – Sarasota, FL – Amanda King, associate attorney at Sarasota law firm Syprett Meshad, was recently presented with the “Outstanding Service by a Young Lawyer” award by Legal Aid of Manasota. This award honored King for donating more than 200 hours to pro bono projects in 2011, and for giving a presentation about family law issues at a community event sponsored by the Sarasota County Bar Association in February.
Any lawyer in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit is eligible for this award. The winner is selected based on the number of hours he or she contributed to pro bono work and the number of cases he or she worked on. King’s number of pro bono work hours exceeded what most people are able to contribute each year.
King graduated from Venice High School before pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion at University of Florida. She attended law school at Tulane University, where she served on the Board of the Public Interest Law Foundation.
King began her legal career as a Deputy Public Defender in Southern California, where she handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases, and gained extensive negotiation and litigation experience. Since returning to Sarasota, King has been involved in a variety of pro bono work through the Legal Aid of Manasota, and has volunteered to assist the Twelfth Judicial Circuit. She is also active with the Sarasota County Bar Association and is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. Admitted to practice in Florida and California, King focuses on family law matters including divorce, paternity, custody, child support, alimony, injunctions, and domestic violence.
