F. Scott Westheimer

F. Scott Westheimer, joined Syprett, Meshad, Resnick, Lieb, Dumbaugh, Jones, Krotec & Westheimer, P. A. as an associate in 1996, became a partner in 2000 and has been the active managing partner since 2002.  He was born in Baltimore, Maryland but pursued the majority of his preliminary education in Sarasota, graduating from Riverview High School in 1989.  Mr. Westheimer graduated from the University of Florida in May of 1993, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, with high honors.  He attended the University of Florida College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate, with high honors, in 1996.  While at the College of Law, he had the distinction of graduating as a member of the Order of the Coif.  He was a Teaching Assistant in Appellate Advocacy and Legal Research and Writing, and participated in the International Law Program at Leiden University in the Netherlands in the Spring of 1996.

He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Sarasota County Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association and the American Association for Justice.  He is a Past President of the Sarasota County Bar Association (2010 – 2011), a Past President of the Sarasota County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association Diversity Committee (and former chair), and has served on the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors since 2004.  He has been recognized in the Gulf Coast Business Review’s Top 40 under 40 (2002), has been selected a Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star as listed in 2010 and 2011 Florida Super Lawyers Magazine, and has been selected for inclusion on Florida Trend Legal Elite list (2012) as selected by all in-state members of the Florida Bar.

He has an “AV” rating by Martindale Hubbell, which means that he was deemed to have very high professional ethics and preeminent legal ability, and is admitted to practice in the U. S. District Court, Middle District of Florida and Florida state Courts.  His practice involves primarily the representation of plaintiffs in personal injury matters and various aspects of commercial litigation.  He has handled cases involving complex personal injury, motorcycle and automobile accidents with severe injuries, premises liability matters, product liabilities’ litigation, medical malpractice litigation, and commercial litigation.  Mr. Westheimer has the published appellate decisions of In Re: Estate of Angelica Gabrielle Salathe v. Salathe, 703 So.2d 1167 (Fla. 2d DCA 1997); Mezroub v. Capella, 702 So.2d 562 (Fla. 2d DCA 1997); Wanner v. State, 746 So.2d 478 (Fla. 2d DCA 1999); and, Barrington v. Gryphon Investments, Inc. d/b/a RE/Max Excellence, 32 So.2d 668 (Fla. 2d DCA 2010).

Mr. Westheimer is also active doing various volunteer work in Sarasota County, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Sarasota County (from 2009 to the present), has volunteered for Pet Placement, and has in the past volunteered for various other local charities.
