Teresa D. Jones
Teresa D. Jones joined
the firm as an associate in 1986, and became a partner in 1991.
She was born in Albertville, Alabama, and educated in the state
of Alabama, and in 1976, received a Bachelor of Arts with distinction
and high honors in political science and psychology from Jacksonville
State University, Jacksonville, Alabama. She attended Cumberland
School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, and was awarded her Juris
Doctorate (cum laude) in 1978. In law school, she was a member of
the Cumberland-Samford Law Review.
She was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1978,
and from 1978 until 1985, practiced law in Gadsden, Alabama. While
in Alabama, she was appointed Assistant City Attorney for the City
of Gadsden, Alabama; and was the first female Deputy District Attorney
for Etowah County, Alabama. She served in that position from 1983
until 1985, when she moved to Sarasota, Florida.
Ms. Jones was admitted to the Florida Bar in
1984. She received her Board Certification in Civil Trial Law in
1994, and was recertified in 1999. She has been a certified county
and circuit mediator since 1998. She has an “AV” rating
by Martindale Hubbell.
Ms. Jones has served in various capacities in
the Sarasota County Bar, including being a member of the Twelfth
Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar, and serving
as Chair of that Committee. She has served as appellate liason,
nominating committee member, judicial evaluation commmittee, awards
committee chair, has been active in law week and has been a member
of the annual picnic committee. She is active in FAWL, serving as
a director. She is a charter member of the Sarasota ABOTA chapter.
She is a member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators.
She has presented seminars locally and through the Academy of Florida
Trial Lawyers.
Since joining the firm, Ms. Jones has participated
in a number of jury trials, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
She has handled cases involving personal injury, wrongful death,
premises liability, nursing home claims, medical malpractice claims,
construction defect litigation, real property disputes, contested
mortgage foreclosure trials, and general litigation. She has been
published in the Southern Reporter in several decisions as appellate
counsel.
Ms. Jones is admitted to practice before the
state bars of Alabama, Florida, the United States District Courts
for the Northern District of Alabama and the Middle District of
Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States
Supreme Court.
