James A. Fowler, Jr.
James A. Fowler, Jr. devotes his practice to the areas of family and criminal law. He
assists clients in a wide variety of marital and domestic related issues including: divorce,
child custody, child support, alimony, paternity, domestic violence, injunctions, post judgment enforcement and modification issues. His practice also handles criminal
defense cases ranging from traffic tickets to felony charges.
James was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science degree
in political science from Ferrum College in 2002, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During
college, James was a member of the student judicial review board and received an award for being the most effective delegate in the school's Model United Nations Conference. He was also awarded a scholarship for his community service in the local community through the Bonner Scholar program.
Following his graduation from college, James returned to Sarasota where he worked as an
investigator for the Public Defender's Office for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit of Florida.
During his two years of service at the Public Defender's Office James obtained
invaluable experience in the area of criminal law. James went on to pursue his law
degree, and was awarded his Juris Doctorate in 2008 from Florida Coastal School of Law
in Jacksonville, Florida.
During law school, James gained legal experience as a law clerk with the Law Office of
Duke, P.A., where he worked with pending family, criminal, and personal injury cases.
He furthered his legal experience through his work as a certified legal intern for the State
Attorney's Office for the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Florida.
James has been a member of the Florida bar since 2008. He is also a member of the
Sarasota Bar and the Sarasota Young Lawyers Division (YLD). James has very strong
ties to the Sarasota community. His family has resided in Sarasota, Florida since the early
1800's where they have owned and operated one of the first bail bonding companies in
the area since the mid 1900's. James is a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the
Sun Coast and is also serving as co-chair for the YLD's Law Week program in 2009,
which introduces local 5th graders to the law by having lawyers come to their classes to
assist in a mock trial.
